Voting and collaborative information filtering as elementary network acts of information societies.

A future framework of network services of information societies can be built upon the digital equivalents, manifested in new network technologies and service systems, of traditional value transfer mechanisms, developed during the history of societies.

Technology results of two research and development projects of MTA SZTAKI Department of Distributed Systems under the umbrella of EU 4th Framework of Research and Technology Development Projects are presented. Web4Groups EU project developed a Web-based groupware system. Voting system technology developed during the project is the technology fundament of the current public and free Internet voting system of MTA SZTAKI (www.sztaki.hu/services/voting). Under the framework of SELECT EU project a collaborative information filtering technology was developed (www.sztaki.hu/SELECT).

Both technologies are belonging in the same set of technologies where a groupware-based method is used for the quality improvements of associated metainformation of special class. The introduction of these and similar networks technologies can lead us to the future steps of the IT supports of millions of decision acts of the everday life.
