The aim of the development represented in the address is to elaborate an information processing and servicing system available to convert the information sources already in the public collections and those getting to there in the future into an integrated sructure of formal and content elements without regarding the different carrying methods of the given information sources. Processing the information to an integrated form enables the users of the system to have an effective, time-saving and economical retrieval.


Firstly, the network to be implemented is organized at county level as the institutions belonging to it work in the territory of the county of Szabolcs Szatmár Bereg; secondly it is of public collection as the members of the network manage archival work, handle matters of library, and the work of museums; thirdly this system is of documentation as it gives information in the public collections at by far the most complete level of form and content; and finally this new system must be called by the name of ’network’ as all institutional users connected to the network will have the chance to reach the borning new information source at an unified, easy to use surface.


The planned network includes the group of the county’s college, special, and public libraries. The logic of the system makes it possible for other public collections of different function, or maintaner to easily connect to the network as fully members and make use of all services of it.

The members of the consortium is known to bear 32000 registrated active users.


After the implementation of the project an effective, up to date, and economical public collection information network is to come into existence, which structurally accomodates to the regional and the national public collectoin systems as well. The communicating channnel between the participating institutions is insured by the academic network operated by the NIIFI.


By using the system under implamentation we assure that the information searched by the users of the system is served at the most effective way. During the implementation of the project we highly focus on the fact that besides introducing the Central Catalogue of the Public Collection of the County of Szabolcs Szatmár Bereg as well as the central services organized on it (such as electronical SDI service, or documentation borrowing system between institutions) we prove that our system is able to service gathering all kinds of information carrier into an unified form.


We organize special virtual collections around the central database to satisfy the specialized needs of each target group. The mentioned virtual databases contains records processed at different levels depending on the special requirements of the concrete target group.
