Trends in Supercomputing Technology

The paper overviews the main trends in supercomputing technology based on

the top500 list. After mentioning the usual software tools and libraries

of parallel programming the author argues in favour of high-level

parallel programming environments and describes such a graphical

environment, called P-GRADE. The possible application areas of

supercomputers are enumerated. Finally, the situation concerning supercomputing in

Hungary is explained in detail.
