Forgotten sources from the 19^th century: literature and history of culture (Digital collection)

This project of digitization is carried out by the lecturers and PhD students of the Department of Classical Hungarian Literature of the University of Szeged, supported by the collaborators of the University Library.

We would like to gather and to make public lurking writings from the numerous newspapers and periodicals from the end of the 19th century.

In accordance with the Department's other research projects this project's aim is not the contribution to the digital publication of well-known oeuvres from the 18th-19th centuries, but tracking down and making digitally available "uncanonized", but interesting theoretical and critical writings.

Because of the huge material waiting to be processed we make digital photos of the documents for the moment, and we hope that later we can convert this information into text format. The material is stored in XML encoding, using characteristic keywords for the succesful information retrieval. The search of the already processed data is possible through a Web page form, so that the collaborators of the project can make the additions if needed.

The resulting digital collection will be made public through intranet or the Internet, depending on our possibilities.
