Gigabit Telecommunication / Where Is the Borderline ?

“I could have taken a bus, but there had been no seats free. I wanted to hire a taxi, but there was none around the place. Therefore I had no other choice except taking an airplane. Luckily it proved to be a good choice, because the plane was not only cheaper, but more reliable and considerably faster !”
As this short quotation illustrates, the designers of telecommunications companies nowadays make hard work when laying the foundations of the networks of today and even tomorrow. In this industry we get used to he fact, that it is not the big fish, who eats the small, but the faster fish eats the slower !
In the competition following the liberalisation, the market’s communications demands concerning both the broadband needs and the geographical expansion will probably grow rapidly.
The technology, which fulfils these increasing demands is changing so fast, that a deployment based on a wrong conception could delay the company in both keeping and in reinforcing its market position.
It is a fact, that the Hungarian Service Providers should soon make their commitments to serve demands appearing in the Gigabite Section, which section may seem to be a bit exaggerated until today.
In my lecture I am not intended to give an overall picture of the broadband telecommunications technologies, I would rather focus on the available alternative solutions within this section, in order to encourage a common consideration among those, who are interested in this field.
