Library Informatics has become a part of the curriculum at the Medical University of Debrecen in 1993. The 10-class courses (in English and Hungarian) are attended by first-year students of medicine, dentistry and pharmacology.
The Course Modules introduce students to
The Library and library use (traditional tools: textbooks, journals, reference books, etc.; and library OPACs )
Biomedical information on the Net (medical URLs, comparison and evaluation of medical megasites)
Databases ( use of locally available databases: A.D.A.M., Scientific American, Stedman's Dictionary, Medline, Science Citation Index, Current Contents, Full text electronic journals)
The basics of information retrieval, the theoretical and practical aspects of writing a scientific paper
