PRIDE (People and Resources Identification for Distributed Environments) was a two-year RTD project with funding from the European Commission TAP, which started in 1998. The project involved academic and commercial partners from 6 countries, among them IQSOFT Co. Ltd. (Hungary).

The research was aimed at solving the difficulties of the information organising and service arisen with spreading of the Internet recognising the fact that information suppliers from the same sector of economics can respond collectively more quickly and effectively to information growth, market forces, new technologies than individuals can themselves.

The project has built a number of components for an infrastructure to sustain access management and interoperability in a global distributed information services environment making both Patron and Service information available. Beyond the common information portal functions the directory makes serving users easier by operating intelligent agents.

PRIDE acts as a broker for the independent user accessing multiple services; it improves the interface between distributed information services and the wider world of electronic commerce and information supply - including digital lifestyle offerings such as tele-shopping, entertainments, tourist information services and training.

The presentation will answer the following questions as well: in which fields it can be applicable, how to adapt and introduce directory solution into the Hungarian market and how to enhance the functions of the directory.
