I. Goals and sources

Aim: cheap, “student-proof” teaching system for learning, developing, applications and network knowledge.

A school-portal connected to the teaching system to develop the communication among teachers, students and parents. Potentially replacing the paper-based administration of the school.

Users: lamer teachers and students with hacker skills.

Sources: approx. 7million HUF fund, a few students from a programming special course and a long summer holiday.

II. Strategy

Centralised hardware, separating teacher and student domains, all machines are closed up due to “student-proofness”. Improving cost efficiency by 1 million: projector is replaced by software. Linux operating system.

III. The realised system

a) PC lab: topology, hw, sw, vitrual projector with VNC, messaging board with VNC; floppy-server, CDRW server, rack-server.

b) Portal = authentication server = teachers' server

c) “Who is under lock and key?” Security considerations: who is threatened by whom?

d) Distributing the sources: application server = fileserver

c) “Don't touch”: floppy, CD, hdd-rack -> into old machines.

IV.

Today: Portal, virtual projector, OpenOffice as base office, php-developing course

Tomorrow: E-administration, open-source special courses, sysadmin course and language lab.
