Advanced Distributed
Learning (ADL) is defined as distributed learning that encompasses improvements
in learning technologies that leverage emerging computer and communication
technologies, common guidelines and specifications to provide anywhere, anytime
learning. In its simplest form, the achievement of anywhere, anytime learning
is dependent upon providing learning content in a Web-based environment.
Web-based learning products are primarily focused on the individual learner
although they can be extended to include both synchronous and asynchronous
learning within a group environment. NATO is drafting ADL Policies and planning
Prototype developments in support of common high-priority education and
training needs. A longer range vision of Nato Partnership for Peace (PfP) is to
create a distributed environment in which all nations including their
universities and academies have an equal opportunity to develop, deliver, and
manage learning tools and course content. All of these efforts are designed to
harmonise and greatly enhance education and training at all levels.
