The organisation of
information supply systems supporting different user demands in libraries is a
complex task. The services should be personalised and, in an ideal situation,
independent of opening hours and the location of the user.
Spreading of digital formats,
especially the Internet, has not simplified, on the contrary it makes the task more difficult, as the
contents to be provided are available on a variety of media with different
technologies: CD/DVD, databases, office applications, OPAC-s, Web addresses.
Libraries are forced to accommodate these differences, as the user cannot be
expected to be familiar with the different systems. A simple access point:
"an information portal" should be established which is easy to comprehend
for everybody.
It is also a requirement for
libraries to develop these services economically and operate them efficiently.
The presentation aims to
review the present tendencies of information supply in the libraries
demonstrating the efforts and concepts of the National Szchnyi Library.
