Abstract
The VoIP project of NIID has
started in 2002 and the first result – the pilot infrastructure - was presented
successfully at the previous Networkshop. Since the pilot, we have been mainly
focusing on the introduction of NIID VoIP service, with the goal of saving on
costs of telephony services, meanwhile provide new value-added services on the
HBONE and utilise available bandwidth.
In first phase of the roll-out
in 2003, more than 30 organisations will be connected to the HBONE VoIP
infrastructure, that can be used not only traffic between the participating
organisations but for calls outside the VoIP network.
To provide competitive service
for the organisations, the implementation required to address all aspect of the
service development including legal, regulation, financial, purchasing,
technical, operational and organisation issues. The presentation summarises results of the
VoIP project achieved in the last year: development of the billing
system, design and set up of the VoIP infrastructure, work-out of the
financial/business framework and interconnection with telco’s.
