Business--provide access to “expert” knowledge across multiple business units
HR consultant offers time-management course to employees at multiple remote offices instead of requiring them to travel to a central location for the training. Saves travel time/expense. Alternative would be to have consultant teach course multiple times at several locations.
Train employees in multiple locations on new procedures or policies.
Primary/Secondary Education--many districts have high-bandwidth links within the districts (and statewide in many states) provided by federal/state funding.
Schools with too few qualified students for an advanced course can “link up” these students with other students and a teacher to take an advanced class. Separately at each school, there may not be enough students to justify offering the class. (In at least one scenario, the teacher rotates between the schools, so in a 4 school class, the students get face-to-face with the teacher at least 25% of the time.)
